Issue 3: Total Defence Day 2007

On 15th Feb every year, all schools commemorate Total Defence Day.

a) Do you think it is relevant? Why?
b) How do you think the commemoration of Total Defence Day can be made more meaningful and engaging for the students?

a)Yes, i think that it is revelant as Total Defence is about the different things that we can do everyday in every sector of our society to strengthen our resilience as a nation. When we take National Service seriously, participate in civil emergency exercises, upgrade our skills, build strong bonds with different races and religions, and feel the pride of being Singaporean, we contribute to Total Defence and i feel that all students should know about the importance of it.

b) I think that commemoration could include more action and less talking as schools also teach us about it and that they could teach us things like extinguishing fire and let students try it and ot demostrations. To commemorate Total Defence Day we could do all these and also put billboards or sighboards over the schools to talk about how to equip ourselves before a crisis happens, being vigilant at all times and to expect the unexpected at all times of the day.
